This is from my reading of The Daily Stoic for today….

“….Vivere est militare. (To live is to fight.)

Today, you’ll be fighting for your goal, fighting against impulses, fighting to be the person you want to be.  So what are the attributes necessary to win these many wars?

Discipline,  Fortitude,  Courage,  Clearheadedness,  Selflessness,  Sacrifice

And which attributes lose wars?

Cowardice,  Rashness,   Disorganization,  Overconfidence,  Weakness,  Selfishness

As in war, so these attributes matter in daily life.”

So rely on your positive attributes to help you win the battle each day.  Avoid the negatives and keep up the fight on a daily basis.

Also remember when you work/live with other people that they, too, are going through their own battles in life that we have no idea of.  They may have difficult situations at home that spill over into work, they may have just gotten bad news, they might be frustrated with the whole COVID mess.  This list goes forever.  So remember everyone is engaged in their own personal battle on a daily basis, do your part to help them get through it today and maybe they will be there to help you get through yours tomorrow.

We are halfway through the Strong Lifts Program.  As we move ahead we will start to hit the ceiling on some of your lifts.  Here’s what to do.  If you fail to get all 5 sets of 5 reps on back squats on Monday, do the same weight again on the next back squat day.  If you make it, keep increasing.  If you don’t make all 5 sets of 5 reps on the second time you will will need to reset, drop back 20% in weight and start the climb again.  Keeping track of your weights is critical in this.  Maintain excellent form and be deliberate about your reps and rest between sets.  You will see some big weights in the next 6 weeks and you will gain greater strength with consistent attendance and work.  I’m looking forward to what you guys will accomplish, hang in there.
